The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) has two major wage components. First, employees must be paid a regular hourly rate that is at least equal to the applicable minimum hourly wage. Second, unless specifically exempted, employees who work more than 40 hours in a workweek must be paid at least one-and-one‑half times their regular hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40. Under the FLSA, a workweek is seven consecutive calendar days comprising a total of 168 hours. The workweek may start on any day of the week and at any hour of the day.
This course is an overview of the FLSA.
